Camping options around Aspen for Sept 4โ7. The Maroon Bells campgrounds themselves are fully booked, but there's wide-open space a short drive out. Live availability pulled from recreation.gov.
The campgrounds right at the Bells โ Silver Bar, Silver Bell, and Silver Queen โ are the close, frickin'-awesome ones up Maroon Creek Road. Most of their sites are first-come, first-served (not reservable online), so the booked status doesn't tell the whole story. Roll in early Thursday morning before the holiday crowd and there's a real shot at grabbing one of the best spots in the valley. The reserved sites below are the safe backup if it doesn't pan out.
The best bet โ wide open, riverside sites under the pines up the Fryingpan from Basalt. Easy in, plenty of room for trailers.
Reserve โLakeside on Ruedi Reservoir โ boating, fishing, big water views. Lots of openings.
Reserve โRight next to Mollie B on the reservoir โ same lake access, quieter loop.
Reserve โSmall lakehead campground where the Fryingpan feeds the reservoir. Only a few left.
Reserve โPretty Crystal River valley near the historic Redstone Castle โ down to its last site, grab it now or skip.
Reserve โThe closest campgrounds to the Bells โ both full every night Labor Day weekend. A few Silver Bell & Silver Bar sites are first-come only; show up Thursday AM to gamble on those.
Check โWalk-to-the-lake location โ no openings for the holiday weekend.
Check โClosest of the in-town options โ completely full for the weekend.
Check โLakeside loop next to the open ones โ this one's already gone.
Check โGorgeous high lake over the pass โ no holiday openings left.
Check โNear Marble and the Crystal Mill โ full for the weekend.
Check โBoat-ramp campground on the reservoir โ no openings.
